Students ages 9-19create a team and have a teacher as fa coach to guide them. The top five teams recieve a labtop and cash awardfor the coaches school. This is a neat fumn way to allow students to work together and be creative.

Copyright for Teachers in the Digital Age

I read an article from the Teaching Today newspaper and it just happened to be about a topic we discussed earlier in the semester in my technology class about copyright. Copyright is a touchy subject where it seems like not many people know about the rules. The article talked about how much you can actually do without the permission of the author of the material being copied. It talked about making the same copies year after year from a master you made years back, and that is not OK, there is a limit to how many copies can be made on this published work. A Simple fix for student s who use others digital photos and other things for their website just simply need to be sited. Music is also included in this we just simply even need to model to our students by not copying so many things from media and books in an improper way because children will pick that up easily.

Washington Middle School Laptop Program

I read an exciting article within the Teaching Today newspaper. Kenosha Unified crafted the laptop project to attract new families to an urban middle school. Enrollment happened to be low at this particular school so they offered all student a laptop with enrollment. The year before all the teachers received laptops now it was the students turn. Using state and federal grant monies with a partnership with Apple this school was able to make this exciting but understood move. The parent and teachers need to go through a training and sign a contract saying they will be able to take care of any repairs or maintenance the laptop may need. The laptops go everywhere with these students. Personally i think it is a little much but I think in ten years this will be more heard of and accepting. The classrooms use the laptops for assignments and there are links the student go to for homework help. Also a eboard is used for communication purposes.

No This is Something I Will Use!

These past few weeks I have been working on a non linear PowerPoint. This is an active PowerPoint that I can use for my children in my classroom as a center project. I set mine up to review fractions it is simple and fun. The student is asked which pizza is 1/2 and the student simply clicks on the pizza that they believe is correct. This PowerPoint project is soo cool. I will be making non linear PowerPoint projects once a week to enhance technology in my classroom.

Technology Time!

Hello my name is Loree Derber.
I am a student a t the UW- Oshkosh, in Wisconsin. I also work full time in my field of study, Early childhood education. I am a teacher assistant for children with cognitive disabilities, with first and second graders.
Throughout My college career I have learned a lot of technology. A few years back in the technical college systems, I sent my first email. Now I send them daily. I believe as an educator we need to stay on top of technology so we can teach our students the ways of the present and the future. Technology opens doors for student success. Children can type a paper edit it and send it to a teacher. The teacher can grade it and send it back to students. Children can view interactive power points and learn as they do and watch. I will be careful not to overload on technology, there still needs to be a balanced way of learning through writing and reading as well.
